Overview
The Nar Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most unique and rewarding trekking experiences. Hidden behind the Annapurna range, the remote valleys of Nar and Phu remained closed to foreign visitors until 2003 and continue to require a special restricted area permit and licensed guide.
Leaving the main Annapurna Circuit at Koto, the trail enters a spectacular wilderness of deep gorges, colorful rock formations, high alpine plateaus, and ancient Tibetan settlements. The villages of Nar and Phu preserve a traditional way of life that has changed little over the centuries, offering a rare glimpse into one of the Himalayas’ most culturally authentic regions.
Unlike Nepal’s busier trekking routes, Nar Phu receives only a small number of visitors each year. Combined with the crossing of Kang La Pass (5,320 m), stunning mountain scenery, and remarkable cultural encounters, this trek offers a true off-the-beaten-path Himalayan adventure.
