Overview

The Tsum Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most culturally rich and secluded trekking experiences. Opened to foreign trekkers only in 2008, this hidden Himalayan valley preserves centuries-old Tibetan Buddhist traditions, unique customs, and a way of life that has remained remarkably unchanged.

Located north of the Manaslu region near the Tibetan border, Tsum Valley is often called the “Hidden Valley of Happiness.” The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River before branching into a peaceful side valley filled with traditional stone villages, ancient monasteries, prayer walls, and spectacular mountain scenery.

Unlike many high-altitude treks in Nepal, the Tsum Valley experience is centered as much on culture and spirituality as on mountain views. Trekkers have the opportunity to visit sacred monasteries, interact with local communities, and explore a region that receives only a fraction of the visitors seen on Nepal’s more famous trekking routes.

Trek Highlights

  • Explore one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally preserved valleys
  • Visit the ancient monasteries of Mu Gompa and Rachen Gompa
  • Experience authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions
  • Walk through traditional villages untouched by mass tourism
  • Enjoy spectacular views of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Boudha Himal
  • Discover centuries-old mani walls, chortens, and sacred sites
  • Visit a region once considered a hidden spiritual sanctuary
  • Experience a peaceful alternative to Nepal’s busier trekking routes
